Excited over Pak win against India: Kashmiri boy suffers brain haemorrhage, dies in hospital

Srinagar, March 16, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a Kashmiri youth, Zuhaib Mushtaq, who had suffered brain haemorrhage out of excitement over the victory of his favourite Pakistan cricket team against India in a recent Asia Cup match, has passed away at a hospital in Srinagar.

Zuhaib Mushtaq (13), a resident of Islamabad, fell unconscious while he was expressing his joy by bursting crackers and shouting slogans in favour of Pakistan team, along with his friends, and went into coma. He was shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where doctors diagnosed him of having suffered brain haemorrhage, very rare in that age. After remaining hospitalized for around 12 days, Zuhaib finally lost the battle for his life.

The doctors termed Franto-Parietal bleed as the cause of his death which they think may have been caused by excitement or anger from extreme emotions. Zuhaib’s father, Mushtaq Ahmad Kuchay, cannot believe that his son, a class 8th student at Montessori High School, Islamabad, is no more.

“Zuhaib was a die-hard fan of Pakistani cricket team and would remain glued to television and not miss a single ball when his favourite team played,” he said. He said that during that tense Pak-India match Zuhaib turned pale when Pakistan lost quick wickets. “It seemed they will lose the match, but as Shahid Afridi, Zuhaib’s favourite player, turned the tables and snatched a near impossible win, he was over the moon, jumping in excitement,” he added.

Mushtaq Ahmad Kuchay said that Zuhaib went out and started celebrating with his friends on the streets. “He along with his friends was bursting crackers and shouting slogans but soon our neighbours came rushing in, informing us that he had fainted,” he said, “We ran out and took him to the District hospital where from he was referred to SMHS hospital.”
