Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm in Arabian Sea

Islamabad, May 25, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (MEKUNU), intensified into an Extremely Severe Tropical Cyclone and now lies (0900 UTC) closed to southern coast of Oman, near 16. 0° N and 54.4° E, at 115 km southeast of Salalah (Oman). The MEKUNU will continue to move in N/NW direction and is likely to cross the Salalah coast during next 12 hours, as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained surface wind speed of 160 – 170 km/hr gusting to 180 km/hr. The Cyclone MEKUNU is currently located at 1306 km southwest of Gwadar and 1630 km from Karachi. None of the area of Pakistan’s coast is under threat by this cyclone.
