Father Claims Hasty Cremation of Daughter, a Victim Doctor in Kolkata

Kolkata: The father of a young postgraduate trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has accused local authorities of hastily cremating his daughter, raising concerns over the West Bengal government’s handling of the investigation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the grieving father expressed his dissatisfaction with the rapid cremation process, noting that despite the presence of other bodies, his daughter’s remains were cremated first. He criticized the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s assurances of justice, indicating a lack of faith in the government’s response and rejecting any compensation offered.

The incident has ignited significant public outcry and protests, with the victim’s father alleging a cover-up involving the entire department of the medical college. “No one from the department or the college cooperated with us. The entire department is involved in this…No results have come out of the inquiry that is being done. We hope we will get results,” he stated.

In response to the national attention and unrest, the Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu cognizance of the case. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is scheduled to hear the case on August 20. Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its probe, employing advanced techniques such as 3D laser mapping in the Emergency ward where the tragedy occurred, to gather more evidence and insights into the crime.
