FBR Cracks Down on Tax Evasion, Seals Restaurants in Islamabad for Fake Receipts

Islamabad: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) in Islamabad has sealed two prominent restaurants for issuing fake receipts, marking a significant enforcement action under the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) new initiative to enhance tax compliance among Tier-1 retailers. The action follows the introduction of a POS Invoicing system and a POS Prize Scheme aimed at integrating restaurants into the tax net and incentivizing consumer reporting of tax evasion.

According to Federal Board of Revenue, the restaurants, located in Islamabad’s Blue Area and Super Market, were found to be issuing inauthentic receipts as determined through POS tracking software. A team led by the Deputy Commissioner of RTO Islamabad carried out the operation, imposing a penalty of Rs. 0.5 million on each establishment.

The FBR has recently launched the Point of Sales Prize Scheme on October 25, initially targeting Tier-1 restaurants in Islamabad. This scheme rewards citizens who report fake receipts via the Tax Asaan app with cash prizes, directly deposited into their bank accounts after verification. The initiative is set to expand nationwide next month, covering all Tier-1 retailers and aims to curb the issuance of fake invoices, thereby ensuring proper tax collection and compliance.
