Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry sign two accords for trade and economic cooperation with Iraqi Chamber of Commerce and Basra Chamber of Industry

Karachi, March 09, 2015 (PPI-OT): Pakistan can play important role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq in every sphere of life. This was stated by Abdul Rahim Janoo, Acting President FPCCI in a meeting with 20 members Iraqi Delegation visited FPCCI Head Office under the leadership of Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Hatam and Mr. Riaz Al Gizri, President Iraqi Federation of Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was also attended by Shahnwaz Ishtiaq, Vice President FPCCI, Siddique Misri, Chairman, PAAPAM, Anis Majeed, Chairman, Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association and large number of rice exporters.

Abdul Rahim Janoo further said that Iraq is going through the stage of reconstruction and rehabilitation and Pakistan can take this opportunity to help its economy and its people. He said that Iraq is a brotherly country and we wish to stand with it to address the problems of economic, industrial and exchange of experiences in various industrial developments.

Abdul Rahim Janoo briefed the Iraqi delegation about the role of FPCCI in national economy and in bilateral trade and economic relations with other countries. He said that Pakistan has specialty in various fields like 3rd largest consumer and 4th largest producer of cotton, 4th largest producer of sugarcane, 6th largest orange producer, 11th largest wheat producer and 12th largest rice producer. He further said that there are tremendous opportunities for Iraqi business community to develop trade and economic relations with Pakistani business community.

The leader of the delegation Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Hatam said that exchange of information and contact of business peoples of both the countries could be enhanced through frequent exchange of trade delegations. The President of Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce Riaz Al-Gizri said that Iraq is now diversifying its economy and the government has adopted the strategy of public private partnership in every field.

He suggested that a FPCCI and Iraqi Federation of Chamber should establish a joint Pak – Iraq Chamber of Commerce. The suggestion was appreciated by Rahim Janoo and said that firstly we should activate Pak-Iraq Joint Business Council for bringing the business counterparts of both countries closer for enhancement of bilateral trade and economic activities.

The Acting President FPCCI Rahim Janoo signed two MOUs for bilateral trade, industrial and economic cooperation and frequent exchange of trade delegations and trade related information with Iraqi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Basra Chamber of Industry.
