Finance Minister Commits to Strengthening Competition Commission of Pakistan

Islamabad: Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized the importance of market competitiveness for safeguarding consumer interests and fostering investment during an address to officials of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Malik highlighted the Commission’s critical role in preventing market failures and shielding consumers from anti-competitive practices. He called for a thorough review of the Competition Act to ensure it remains current and effective, addressing the challenges faced by the Commission.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing the Commission’s capacity through legislative reforms, legal follow-up, and capacity-building initiatives. During the meeting, Competition Commission of Pakistan Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu provided a briefing on the Commission’s functions, performance, and ongoing inquiries in key economic sectors.
