Flyovers on Malir Halt and Malir 15 to be constructed during this Fiscal Year: Saqib Ahmed Soomro

Karachi, September 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro has said that flyovers each having three lanes would be constructed on Malir Halt and Malir 15 during this fiscal year for which tenders have been issued. He said this while addressing a meeting held on reviewing planning, financial resources and other important matters for flyovers, roads and other development works in the city.

The meeting was attended by Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Project Directors of various projects, relevant Executive Engineers and other officers. He said that three lanes flyover on Malir Halt would be constructed with a cost of Rs358.852 whereas three lanes flyover on Malir 15 Shahrae Faisal would be constructed with a cost of Rs495.649.

Three lanes of Malir Halt Flyover would have 3.3 meter, 411 meter length and 14 spans whereas both ramps of this flyover would be constructed on 472 meter safety wall style. Efforts would be made to complete both flyovers on time. Administrator Karachi was informed in a briefing that construction of flyovers on both locations was an old demand of citizens therefore amount for these flyovers was allocated.

Traffic jam problems occurred on both locations for hours due to which citizens were facing inconvenience. Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro informed that schedule and tender for construction of flyovers have been issued and contract for construction of flyovers would be given by the end of this month so that construction works could begin on both locations on immediate basis.

He informed that construction of these flyovers would help improve traffic flow on Sharae Faisal and facilitate citizens going towards Airport National Highway, Pakistan Steel, Port Qasim, Export Processing Zone, Landhi, Malir, Saudabad, Quaidabad and adjacent areas. Administrator Karachi directed Engineering Department to expedite construction works of ongoing projects in the city particularly four flyovers on Shahrah-e-Pakistan should be constructed as soon as possible so that traffic on both highways of Karachi could pass without any hindrance.
