Foreign Minister calls EU Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Islamabad, February 25, 2019 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke to EU Vice President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on telephone today. The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the current state of relations and exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Qureshi briefed the High Representative on the current situation of peace and security in the region, in particular in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident. The Foreign Minister conveyed that Pakistan had expressed readiness to investigate the incident and asked India to share actionable intelligence in this regard. He also highlighted the gross human rights violations perpetrated by the security forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir against unarmed Kashmiris, especially after the Pulwama incident. The Foreign Minister underscored that Pakistan remains committed to peace and stability in the region.

The EU High Representative stressed upon the need for working towards normalizing the situation between the two neighbours. She appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to defuse tensions and extended support to normalize the situation. The two sides also agreed to continue working towards further strengthening bilateral cooperation and agreed to continue consultations on issues of importance.
