FPCCI Health Care Committee demands withdrawal of SRO 412(1)2014 issued by Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan

Karachi, December 23, 2015 (PPI-OT): The demand was raised by Mr. Aamir Iqbal Zam Zam Senior Vice Chairmen Health Care Committee of FPCCI, while talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Chemist and Druggist Association, a Bonafide Member of FPCCI led by its Mr. Asif Aziz Akhai, Senior Vice Chairman.

The FPCCI already appealed to Prime Minister, Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Mr. Ishaq Dar, that the SRO 412(1)2014 will deprive a large number of people of affordable treatment.

He said that herbal and homeopathic way of treatment are considered the cheapest way of treatment but after the implementation of this SRO, the poor would not be able to have this treatment.

He urged the government to develop a reasonable policies of Pharmaceutical Products, Pricing, Registration, Licensing and alternative medicines as including other Healthcare products, in line with the neighbour countries practices Like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, keeping in view the requirement of the Pharma and OTC Products Trade and Industry sector.

The FPCCI Senior vice Chairmen Health Care committee said that regulations should be made and implemented with a purpose of developing this sector.

He said that the DRAP policies s made without due consultation of the stakeholders are bound to fail, like in recent example DRAP holding DRUG PRICING COMMITTEE holding meeting on 31st Dec 2-15 without inviting PCDA which is solely representative of Pharma and OTC Importers and Traders, and have significant stake holder and contributor in Pharma Trade and Industry.

Mr. Aamir Iqbal Zam Zam said that keeping in view the interests of over 190 million people, SRO 412(1)2014 should be withdrawn immediately and DRAP must address the grievances of Pharma and OTC Trade to they can continue to invest.
