Ghani lauds Sindh govt and all the relevant institutions for adaptation of necessary precautionary measures and efforts for quick relief after rains

Karachi, August 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Information and Archives and Labour Saeed Ghani has said that as a result of adaptation of all the necessary precautionary measures beforehand the people of Karachi did not suffer much after two days of heavy rains in the metropolis. The Minister said this while talking to the journalists during his visit various parts of the port city along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Saeed Ghani said that prior to the expected heavy rains all the members of the Sindh cabinet by mobilizing every available resource with the Karachi Municipal Corporation and other local government institutions made sure that the rain did not cause havoc for the people of Karachi and Hyderabad.

The Minister said that in few of the low levelled areas of the city the people suffered due to the accumulation of water but soon that rain water from these areas had also been drained out too. He said that on the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah all the elected members of Pakistan People’s Party as well the complete staff of the municipal corporations was in a state of high alert and worked hard all day and all night for providing timely relief to the people of Karachi and Hyderabad for the last two days.

Saeed Ghani said that the role of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Sindh Police and Traffic Police was also commendable. The Minster requested the people to stay at home unless inevitable. He said that all the staff of Karachi Municipal Corporation, District Municipal Corporation, Solid Waste Management Board along with the Deputy Commissioners and Commissioner Karachi was present on the road to ensure instant drainage of rainwater.

Later after seeing the Chief Minister off, who left to monitor the situation after rain in Thatta, the Minister re-visited various areas in district Korangi and sought first-hand information of the situation during rain. Deputy Commissioner Korangi, Municipal Commissioner Korangi and the officers from Karachi Water and Sewerage Board were also present with the Minister during his visit. Saeed Ghani told the journalists that by utilizing hundreds of water pumps the rainwater had been drained out from almost all the affected areas. The Minister said that after receiving prior information about the forecast of heavy rain in the metropolis all the pertinent components of the district municipality had been activated.

If all this had not been done earlier the situation could had been much serious and unpleasant, he added. He said that Karachi scarcely experience heavy showers of this magnitude during the monsoon season that’s why the administration faced a bit difficulty while tackling the situation but everyone of us was determined to keep the situation in control. Saeed Ghani said that because of the overflowing the Malir and Lyari drains the Korangi and EBM causeways had been temporarily closed, while process of drainage of the rainwater in the locale was also in full swing.

The Minister while commending the untiring efforts of all the relevant institutions of the Sindh government as well as the security apparatus especially Pakistan Army said that it was a combined effort that resulted in avoiding any untoward incident in the metropolis. He also requested the people to stay at their homes and strictly avoid going near the installations of electricity. Saeed Ghani also said that although all the relevant agencies would be on the road during the Eid days in order to ensure the instant cleanliness of the city, but he also asked the people to sacrifice their animals in grounds of open places instead of in streets or on roads. He said that the necessary directives had been issued to the relevant components of the district municipal corporations to dispose of the waste of the sacrificial animals instantaneously on all three days of Eid.
