Thatta, August 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Sindh to provide tents and mosquito nets to the people displaced due to heavy rains in Thatta and Badin.
“I am on the visit of rain-affected areas and would get reports if the damages from district administration so that calamity- hit areas can be declared accordingly.”
This he said on Sunday while talking to media just after presiding over a meeting at DC office. The meeting was attended by elected representatives, commissioner and DIG Hyderabad, DC and SSP Thatta and other concerned officers.
The chief minister said that these were heavy rains which gave badly affected and flooded a large number of people of Kohistan, Jung Shahi and other areas of Thatta. “I am quite upset to know that people have been displaced, therefore I have directed PDMA to provide tents, mosquito nets and other necessary item to the people displaced by heavy downpour,” he said.
Mr Shah said that on way from Karachi, Ghaggar, Dhabeji, Sakro, and other areas what’re is gushing onto the roads and low lying areas. He added that the situation was precarious but “wherever I have gone I have elected representatives taking care of the people in support of district administration and local bodies,” he said.
To a question, Mr Shah said that the main Nala passing from Mukhtiarkar office has been flooded. “I think it has not be de-silted properly, therefore it was not carrying enough water from catchment areas,” he said and directed Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah to arrange necessary machinery for cleansing of the nala.
The chief minister, to another question said that 5 feet water was stagnant in Shahi Bazar where de-watering machine has been installed. “Thatta has a drainage system but it now needs to be upgraded,” he said and added the local representatives gave demanded construction of a new storm water drain around the city for which directed Mr Nasir Shah to get feasibility study of the proposed nala and submit him report.
Earlier, the chief minister said was told in the meeting that Thatta had received 144 mm rain which have caused various problems such a water accumulation everywhere in the city and its talukas and villages. He was told that eight de-watering pumps have been installed in the city. Keti Bunder-Baghan road which has developed major craters due to heavy rain have been filled with sand. At Ghorabari RD-113 excavator has been provided for strengthening of embankments.
The chief minister was told that one dewatering pumps has been installed at Ketibubder and another to Garho. In the meeting it was pointed out that most if the local bodies employees were working in Thatta district without salaries. At this the chief minister directed Local Government Minister to rationalise the local bodies staff in Thatta and Sujawal by transferring them to other Bodies within district so that they could be paid. He said that he would direct secretaries of Finance and Local Government depts to sit together and secure the salaries system of the local bodies.
Sujawal: Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali shah visited Sujawal where he chaired a meeting at DC office which was attended by Ministers, Saeed Ghani, Nadir Shah, Awais Shah, deputy Speaker Rehana Leghari, Advisor to CM Aijaz Shah Shirazi, MNAs and MPAs and concerned depth commissioner and SSP.
They told the chief minister that a large number of people have been displaced as most of the villages in the district have been inundated. The chief minister issued orders for provision of tents, mosquito nets, medicines and other items of their use.
He directed his Advisors Aijaz Shirazi and deputy commissioner Sujawal to conduct a survey of the affected people so that they could assisted. He announced to construct district administration offices, colonies, including police line in Sujawal. Mr Shah said that he was visiting rain affected districts and the would decide which of the areas could be declared as ‘calamity hit areas’, he said.
