Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Commits to Strengthening Pakistan Coast Guards Amid Anti-Smuggling Efforts

Karachi, During a significant visit to the headquarters of the Pakistan Coast Guards in Karachi today, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi underscored the government’s commitment to intensifying anti-smuggling operations and enhancing the capabilities of the Coast Guards. The visit highlighted the ongoing efforts and the crucial role of the Coast Guards in securing the nation’s economic stability.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Naqvi inspected various items seized during recent operations, including a bus and van used for smuggling, demonstrating the sophisticated methods employed by smugglers. Brigadier Ghulam Abbas, Director General of the Pakistan Coast Guards, briefed the minister on the operational challenges and the strategic routes often used for smuggling activities.

During his tour, Naqvi visited the control room to observe the coastal surveillance systems in place and was briefed on the Coast Guards’ counter-narcotics and anti-smuggling efforts. He praised the Coast Guards for their commendable performance despite limited resources and emphasized the need for an upgrade to modernize their capabilities.

“The Pakistan Coast Guard plays an essential role in our anti-smuggling drives and is integral to the strength of our economy,” Naqvi stated. He expressed his strong belief that enhancing the operational capacity of the Coast Guards is key to curbing smuggling activities that are detrimental to the country’s economic health.

The Interior Minister also announced plans for intensive training and resource allocation to better equip the Coast Guards. This includes increasing their involvement in anti-drug operations and expanding their operational scope to handle challenges both on land and at sea.

The visit concluded with a high-level meeting attended by the federal interior secretary and senior officials of the Coast Guards, where further strategies to strengthen the force were discussed. Minister Naqvi reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting the Coast Guards, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to effectively carry out their duties.

This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to enhance national security measures and economic stability through effective law enforcement at sea.
