Gilani, Malik demand whereabouts of abducted jail inmate

New Delhi, November 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik have demanded of the authorities to make public the whereabouts of a Central Jail Srinagar prisoner who was abducted by unknown forces after he was to a hospital for medical check-up.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed deep concern over the abduction of the prisoner, Mohammad Latif Dar by agency personnel during his checkup at Bone and joint Hospital.

Commenting on the incident, Syed Ali Gilani said that the jail administration was custodian of all detainees and providing protection to inmates was part of their duty,” the statement said.

He warned the authorities and jail administration of dire consequences if any untoward incident happened to Mohammad Latif Dar.

Dar, a resident of Panzgam in Pulwama district was arrested a year and half ago and was under trial in a local court. The prisoner is suffering from lumber pain and doctors treating him had advised him complete bed rest.

On Tuesday, the said prisoner was taken to the hospital in police custody but an unidentified force whisked him away to an unknown place,” Gilani said. Syed Ali Gilani appealed to the International Red Cross Committee to intervene for ascertaining the whereabouts of the said detainee.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the JKLF said that Party Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik “has strongly condemned the reign of terror unleashed on Kashmiri prisoners languishing in various jails especially in Srinagar Central Jail.”

“Many prisoners have been illegally shifted to some unknown jails or interrogation centers,” Malik said, adding “recently a prisoner was taken to attend court hearing but was not brought back to the Central Jail.

He while strongly condemning this new terror unleashed by the authorities had said that this unilateral violence was condemnable and most undemocratic, the statement added.
