Gilani Stresses Importance of Continued Social Welfare Programmes

Islamabad: Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani has emphasized the importance of ongoing social welfare programmes to support vulnerable communities across the country. He made these remarks during a meeting with Zamurrad Khan, the Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan Sweet Home, who paid a courtesy visit to him on Tuesday.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Acting President was briefed on the progress of Pakistan Sweet Home, which began in 2008 with just one internally displaced child under the patronage of then Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. Since its inception, it has developed into a nationwide initiative aimed at aiding orphaned and underprivileged children.

Gilani was also informed about Syeda Fatima tuz Zahra Dastarkhwan, a programme that provides free meals to over seven thousand individuals daily and is currently extending its support to flood-affected regions.

Subsequently, former Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali, Senator Zarqa Suharwardy, Ex-MNA Nadeem Afzal Chan, and Muhammad Ashraf Waraich also met with Yousuf Raza Gilani. During this occasion, a prayer was offered for the departed soul of the Acting President’s cousin, Tanvir ul Hassan Gilani.
