Governor orders expansion of command, control centres in Sindh

Karachi, December 03, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has directed the concerned authorities to expand the network of Command and Control Centres across the province. Chairing a meeting at Governor House on Sunday, he also emphasized for a composite and technologically sophisticated “Anti Criminal Mechanism,” in the province.

“The existent surveillance system must therefore not only be strengthened but equally efficient in all parts of Sindh,” he reiterated during the meeting held to review the existent command and control system. It was decided during the meeting that Commissioner of Karachi would be the focal person for control and command system in the city.

Sindh Governor ordered integration of the command control centres functional under KMC and Karachi police head-office respectively. He also directed that command and control system existent in the city must develop close networking with concerned authorities of Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim, Steel Mills, Civil Aviation and other relevant organizations.

Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan ordered the officials to strengthen community policing and surveillance in the eight zones of the city, decided in accordance to the recommendation of the business community of the metropolis. He asked the deputy commissioner south and chief of citizen police liaison committee to ensure beefing up of security in the business centers and industrial areas of Karachi.

The governor expressed his confidence that updated security measures would also address the issue of encroachment and violation of traffic rules in Karachi.

He ordered the officials to take action against vehicles plying in the city as well as the province without authorized number plates. The meeting extensively discussed different aspects of the existent surveillance system and recommended for its expansion besides strengthening and making it more result oriented.

The Sindh Governor made it clear to the officials concerned that command and control system could only be considered beneficial if its application is optimally utilized in preventing crimes and nabbing the criminals.

Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said success of this system also demanded introduction of a technical cadre in the police force under the supervision of an AIG level officer who must also have sound knowledge of the relevant technology.

He on the occasion also ordered installation of cameras at all petrol pumps and thoroughfares in the province. “The exercise has to be aimed at nabbing the criminal elements and bring them under the net of law,” he said.

The governor ordered the concerned officials to ensure adequate security measures, with necessary provision of fool- proof surveillance at entry as well as exit points of all cities in the province, including Karachi.
