Handing over of keys to Shopkeepers of Quettawala Building

Karachi: Provincial minister for Information Technology Raza Haroon said it was not less than a miracle in our society that dozens of buildings at M.A Jinnah Road which were razed during Ashura tragedy had been reconstructed and hundreds of traders got their business back within a short period of only two years. Such work would not have possible without a sincere leadership. It was the efforts of Quaid-e-Tehreek Mr. Altaf Hussain, President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and the then City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal that had made this possible.

He expressed these views while speaking at a ceremony held at Bolton Market on Friday to hand over the keys of the reconstructed shops of Quettawala Market.

Former President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry A. Q Khalil and President Bolton Market Association Rafiq Jadoon also spoke on this occasion.

The Provincial minister said in Pakistan affectees of such incidents had received very little compensation in past but the affectees of Ashura incident in Karachi were completely rehabilitated.

A. Q Khalil on this occasion informed that 60 percent work of the affected buildings of M.A Jinnah Road had been completed and a total of 1774 traders had received Rs One billion and 80 crores as compensation.

He also thanked former city nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for helping and supporting people in their difficult times.

Rafiq Jadoon said today 342 shopkeepers were receiving keys of their shops while the remaining work underway speedily.
