Hannah Getachew, the Youth Messenger of the Belt and Road Initiative, said Nanjing is the City of Bibliophilia

NANJING, China, May 6, 2019 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/–  From April 3 to 6, Hannah Getachew came to Nanjing again with more than 100 representatives from 85 countries for the 3rd Youth Forum on Creativity and Heritage along the Silk Road. This time, she had more time to experience the literary beauty of this oriental “City of Bibliophilia”.

Last year, the reply from President Xi made Hannah famous in China. At that time, Hannah Getachew, who was studying the master’s degree of international law at Peking University, participated in the 2nd Youth Forum on Creativity and Heritage along the Silk Road. In Nanjing, she wrote a letter to President Xi with her Chinese name “Wu Hanna”.

Hannah said that she wrote to President Xi because she was “infected by the atmosphere of the city, the enthusiasm of the youth representatives and their desire for international exchanges”.

Hannah said that she could receive a reply and would like to thank Nanjing for her beautiful stationery. The letter paper to President Xi was a gift that she had gained during her participation in the forum in Nanjing — a stationery designed with the paintings of Nanjing “Shizhuzhai Art Design”. “I choose this stationery because it has a long history with its city. I will remember the beautiful memories in Nanjing when I see these beautiful patterns.”

Hannah used three words to describe Nanjing — ancient, literary and creative. “What I am most impressed is Nanjing’s enthusiasm for literature.” Hannah told reporters, “We have experienced a strong literary atmosphere in the Librairie Avant-Garde and the Nanjing Library.”

“Literature may become the greatest cooperation area with the development prospect for Nanjing and Ethiopia in the future,” Hannah said, “The Ethiopian writer’s group has grown rapidly. I think both sides should enhance literary exchanges. I am happy to make my own efforts to play a role in the exchange of literary and cultural exchanges.”
