Harassment of Salahuddin’s family members in IOK flayed

Srinagar, March 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the harassment of the family members of prominent freedom leader and the Chief of Hizul Mujahideen, Syed Salahuddin, by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

A spokesman of the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced the summoning of sons and son-in-law of Syed Salahuddin by the NIA to its office in Srinagar and subjecting them to harassment. He said, “This oppressive step can’t break the resolve of people of Kashmir or the leadership and that all these repressive steps are destined to taste defeat.”

The Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), Aasiya Andrabi, in a statement in Srinagar said, the NIA is unnecessarily harassing the family members of Syed Salahuddin. She said, “Syed Salahuddin’s eldest son and five others have been picked up by the NIA over fictitious charges and are being harassed. This useless agency has failed on all fronts to pressurize the leadership by concocted stories and cases, now it is trying to harass the family members to mentally torture the leadership,” she added.

She said, “It has been established that this agency is trying hard to invoke false cases against innocent people. This is nothing but harassment and India should know that these cheap tricks won’t deter the leadership and the people of Kashmir from pursuing this sacred cause.”

The civil society from native district of Hizbul Mujahideen Chief has urged the Indian authorities to stop harassing family of Syed Salahuddin. A large number of respectable citizens from Budgam district, particularly from Soibugh area, expressed concern over the way the NIA has been detaining and questioning the kith and kin of Syed Salahuddin.

They said Syed Salahuddin’s elder son, Shahid Yousuf is already languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail under a false case and now the NIA is harassing his other sons and relatives. It is a sheer harassment and NIA must stop it, the civil society members, adding that even they had met the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti who had assured that nobody would be harassed but once again NIA has started hounding the family members of Syed Salahuddin.
