KARACHI: HBL Microfinance Bank has announced the appointment of Maya Inayat Ismail as the new Chairperson of its Board of Directors, succeeding Rayomond H. Kotwal. The transition marks a significant milestone as Ismail becomes the first woman to lead an Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development institution.
According to a statement by Habib Bank Limited, Ismail has been a pivotal figure in the bank’s development, having been part of the core team that established its predecessor, FMFB, which was Pakistan’s first microfinance bank. With over 25 years of experience in the financial sector, she has served on the Board of HBL Microfinance Bank since 2016 and chaired its FISC Committee, focusing on expanding financial services to underserved communities.
The outgoing Chairman, Rayomond H. Kotwal, expressed pride in the accomplishments achieved during his tenure and confidence in Ismail’s ability to lead the bank into a new phase of growth. “I am proud of what we have achieved together in driving financial inclusion across Pakistan,” he stated.
Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman of HBL, also voiced his support for Ismail’s leadership, highlighting her expertise and dedication to financial inclusion as key factors that will enhance the bank’s impact on underserved communities across Pakistan. He also praised Kotwal for his significant contributions to the bank.
