HC IOK issues notice to authorities in PSA detention case

Srinagar, September 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): The High Court of occupied Kashmir has issued a notice to the authorities in draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) detention case.

Justice Ghulam Hasnain Massodi issued notice to the authorities in a habeas corpus writ petition filed by Sajjad Ahmed Najar, son of Abdul Ghaffar Najar of Jamia Masjid Mohalla in Kishtwar though counsels, A K Sawhney and Aseem Sawhney. Sajjad has been detained under the PSA for Kishtwar violence.

After hearing detained youth’s counsel, the court directed the authorities to file reply during next hearing to be held on September 23. Sajjad, who has been lodged at Central Jail Kotbhalwal Jammu, has sought quashing of detention order passed by the District Magistrate of Kishtwar.

He said that he was victimised and booked under PSA. “The order is apparently illegal and passed on pure non-application of mind, mechanical in nature and arbitrary”, he added.
