Karachi: As a measure to ensure timely endorsement of budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 and to make preparation of budget well in accordance with the guiding principles, Administrator Karachi Fazlur Rehman has imposed ban on the leaves of all concerned officers including DCO Karachi and all EDOs of City District Government Karachi.
Addressing a high level meeting in Civic Centre on Saturday, he said till the final endorsement of the budget no concerned officer will be allowed to go on leave without getting prior permission of the same.
Administrator Karachi further said that all officers should pay attention on the preparation of budget for next financial year so that it could be endorsed in time.
He also directed to make maximum reduction in the budget for non-developmental expenditure while focusing more on the city government’s income.
Regarding guiding principles for next year’s budget he said that no amount should be allocated in the heads for purchase of vehicles, air conditioners and other non developmental expenditures.
“Present financial condition of the country demands to make maximum reduction in the non developmental expenditures of city government, as this would also make it possible to allocate more funds for development heads and also continuation of development process in the city,” he said.
The administrator also directed Finance and Planning Department to hold meetings with all the EDOs and ensure least possible allocation for non-developmental expenditures in the budget of concerned department.
He said that by enhancing the revenue resources and curtailing non-developmental expenditure during next fiscal year, city government would give more attention to development works in city. “Karachi is a most important city. Any obstacle in its progress would spread its affect to whole country. Considering this fact, city government has continued the journey of progress even in hard times. Now this is the duty of all officers to achieve revenue targets of city government while making necessary curtailment in non-developmental heads,” he added.
