HR situation of women in IHK abysmal: Altaf Wani

Geneva, March 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Kashmiri representative, Altaf Hussain Wani has said that the human rights situation of women in occupied Kashmir is at an abysmal state and at the lowest in the world.

Addressing an event organized by an NGO, OCAPROCE International, on Violence Against Women, Strategies for Protection and Prevention on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council in Geneva said that the worlds so-called largest democracy had used rape, molestation, enforced disappearances, psychological trauma and torture against the Kashmir women as a tool of weapon.

He said that the rape victims had lost faith in the militarized justice system in occupied Kashmir.

“Even in those cases, where the victims manage to transcend these fears and report the matter to police, they achieve little or no justice,” he added.

“We must emphasize on the states for their compliance with human rights standards firmly demanded by the international community. It’s time to name and shame those who don’t live up to their responsibilities,” he said.
