Hurriyat Leaders Call for International Response to Alleged Indian Repression in Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has asserted that Indian forces, alongside investigative agencies, are escalating their efforts to suppress Hurriyat leaders and activists in the region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to stifle the ongoing movement for self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, various APHC leaders and groups, including Bashir Andrabi, Imtiyaz Rishi, Maulana Musaib Nadvi, as well as organizations like Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Democratic Freedom Party, and Peoples League, issued statements from Srinagar condemning what they describe as India’s persistent violation of political, social, and religious rights in the area. They emphasized that over one million heavily armed Indian troops, operating under stringent laws, have made life increasingly difficult for the local population.

The leaders voiced their concerns about demographic changes allegedly orchestrated by the Indian government since August 5, 2019, which they claim threaten the distinctive identity and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Additionally, they denounced the recent killing of a youth in a reported fake encounter in Dachigam, Srinagar, labeling it as another act of state terrorism by India.

Appeals have been made to the international community, including the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, European Union, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation, among others, urging them to hold India accountable and seek a resolution to the Kashmir conflict based on UN resolutions to secure peace and dignity for future generations in the South Asian region.
