Lahore: In a concerted effort to bolster security at inter-provincial border checkposts, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, emphasized the strategic importance of these points in preventing terrorism and smuggling during a video conference today. The meeting was focused on enhancing the operational capabilities at key checkpoints and praised the vigilant efforts of the police personnel stationed there.
According to Punjab Police, Dr. Anwar lauded the officers at the Kot Sabzal Checkpost in Rahim Yar Khan for their critical role in safeguarding the main trade route between Sindh and Punjab. This checkpoint is instrumental in thwarting smuggling operations and protecting citizens from honey traps, with over 470 individuals saved from such schemes through proactive police work.
The Dajal Checkpost in Bhakkar was highlighted as another vital barrier against terrorism and trafficking, positioned on a key route from Dera Ismail Khan to Punjab. Dr. Anwar directed personnel at these locations to maintain high alertness, adhere strictly to safety protocols, and wear protective gear, including bulletproof jackets and helmets.
The meeting underscored the challenges faced at these critical junctures, discussing infrastructure upgrades, the integration of modern logistics, and the deployment of advanced weaponry and thermal imaging technology to enhance security measures.
DIG Operations Punjab, Waqas Nazir, provided a detailed briefing on the staffing, logistics, challenges, and performance of the Kot Sabzal and Dajal checkposts. Senior police officials, including RPO Bahawalpur Rai Babar Saeed, DPO Rahim Yar Khan Rizwan Umar Gondal, DPO Bhakkar Abdullah Lak, and in-charge officers of the mentioned checkposts, participated in the discussion via video link, along with Rangers personnel.
Dr. Anwar also instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) to conduct regular inspections of these posts to ensure the well-being of the personnel and the provision of necessary facilities, highlighting the commitment of the Punjab Police to enhance security and ensure public safety at these critical points.
