IG Sindh Leads Strategic Meeting to Combat Drug Mafias and Arrest Fugitives

Karachi: In a major push to combat narcotics trafficking and apprehend fugitives, Inspector General of Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon chaired a significant meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi. The meeting focused on reinforcing actions against drug mafias and enhancing efforts to capture fugitives across Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.

According to Sindh Police, the conference was attended by senior law enforcement officials including Additional IG Operations, DIGs of Crime and Investigation, Special Branch, IT, and Establishment. Officers from Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions joined via video link, where they briefed on the current measures being implemented in their areas against narcotics operations and the ongoing efforts to detain accused and fugitive individuals.

IG Memon emphasized the importance of integrating modern technology in policing efforts. He instructed that details of accused and fugitives, including their ID cards and photos, should be systematically registered in the police station record management system. This move is part of a broader strategy to monitor digital footprints and enhance the tracking of criminal activities through a robust digital approach. Furthermore, he highlighted the role of technology-equipped hotels and city-installed cameras in aiding the capture of fugitives.

The meeting also addressed the need for updating operational tactics and legal frameworks to ensure the effectiveness of the anti-drug campaigns. IG Memon directed the DIGs to fortify their legal teams and scrutinize the reasons behind the release of individuals accused in drug cases, ensuring stringent oversight of case registrations, investigations, and the handling of evidence and witnesses.

IG Sindh stressed the importance of stringent actions against those involved in the drug trade networks and ensuring their prosecution at all levels to dismantle the operational capabilities of drug mafias in the region.
