IHK HCBA team to visit New Delhi’s Tihar jail

Srinagar, May 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): A team of High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir will visit the New Delhi’s Tihar Jail to take stock of the plight of illegally detained Kashmiris and will release a detailed report about their condition.

The HCBA General Secretary, Muhammad Ashraf Butt told a Srinagar-based daily newspaper that a team of lawyers would be constituted to observe the plight of the Kashmiri prisoners. He said that the Bar Association had already submitted a petition in the High Court of the territory about shifting of Kashmiri prisoners to the Valley jails.

Meanwhile, Farooq Ahmad Malik, father of a detainee, Ehtisham Farooq, a resident of Batapora in Sopore, after meeting his son at the Tihar jail told media persons in Srinagar that the jail authorities were treating the detainees inhumanly. He said that 15 Kashmiri detainees had been kept in a small and dark cell with no basic facilities and they were continuously being harassed.

According to Farooq Ahmad Malik, the Kashmiri detainees included Ehtisham Farooq, Shafqat, Shabbir Lone, Javed Ahmad, Muhammad Aslam, Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Faisal Mahmood, Bashir Ahmad, Muhammad Hussain, Waseem Akram, Muhammad Arif, Abdullah Chichi, Nazir Khan, Muhammad Noshad and Muhammad Aadil.

Farooq Ahmad said that he tried to meet the jail superintendent but was not allowed.
