Srinagar: The persistent backlog of General Provident Fund (GPF) bills in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has left employees in financial distress, as treasuries continue to delay clearances without any justifiable explanation.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, despite repeated pleas, the IIOJK administration has failed to act, exposing its apathy towards employees’ hard-earned savings.
Urging the occupation authorities to release their pending funds, the frustrated employees say that the GPF, meant to provide financial security during emergencies, has now become “an unreliable fund” due to the IIOJK administration’s inaction.
“An employee contributes to the GPF so that it can be utilized at the time of need. But here, the government has made it an unreliable fund,” lamented one claimant, who has been awaiting clearance of their GPF bill for several months.
Bills amounting to crores of rupees have been pending at several treasuries, according to sources in the IIOJK Finance Department. “No amount has been released, despite the demand being projected daily to the government,” they stated.
“The delay in GP fund withdrawals is a serious issue,” said Wajahat Durrani, President of the Employees Joint Action Committee, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. Employees have experienced these difficulties since IIOJK’s reorganization, with their hard-earned money being withheld, sometimes even after retirement, he said, cautioning that government employees are becoming increasingly dissatisfied.
Employees are now calling for immediate action due to their growing frustration and financial difficulties. They caution that inaction could lead to widespread protests against the callous attitude of the IIOJK administration.
