Inauguration Date Set for Islamabad’s ML-1 Project

Islamabad, The Ministry for Planning has announced the inauguration date for the highly anticipated Main Line (ML-1) project. The project is scheduled to be launched in February next year, strategically planned before the general elections on February 8, as confirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to Zameen.com published on November 24, the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, is expected to inaugurate the ML-1 project. The revised plan for ML-1, estimated at USD 6.7 billion, is awaiting approval by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in January. The project, involving the construction of railway tracks from Kemari to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Multan, Multan to Lahore, Lahore to Lalamusa, and Nawabshah to Rohri, is part of a major initiative to enhance Pakistan’s railway infrastructure. Chinese authorities are anticipated to present the approved plan to Pakistan within the next week. Officials from the Secretary Railway, Planning Commission, and National Highway Authority (NHA) have been directed to finalize arrangements by January.
