Lahore: The Modi-led government in India is being accused of engaging in water terrorism, exacerbating regional tensions by releasing river waters into Pakistan without prior notification, leading to widespread flooding and an emergency situation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the actions by the Indian government, including the unannounced release of water from the Ravi and Chenab Rivers, have caused significant flooding in thousands of Pakistani villages, affecting millions of acres of land. This strategy is part of what critics describe as ongoing aggressive policies and support for destabilizing activities in the region, including infiltration efforts in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the water levels at Qadirabad barrage are rising rapidly after India’s release of water into the Chenab River, with forecasts predicting increases from 200,000 cusecs to 250,000 cusecs. Additionally, between 40,000 and 55,000 cusecs of water are expected at Jasar and Shahdara along the Ravi River, prompting low-level flood warnings.
PDMA has issued directives for residents in the affected areas to relocate to safer locations in response to the imminent threat of flooding. This situation underscores the ongoing concerns over India’s use of water resources as a geopolitical tool, raising alarms about the potential for escalating conflicts and the broader implications for peace in the region.
