Indian academics visits Punjab University

Lahore: A six-member inter-university delegation of academics from India visited the Punjab University here on Monday. Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran welcomed the delegation at the Centre for Undergraduate Studies. PU Director External Linkages Maria I Maldonado arranged the visit for promoting bilateral academic relations.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said mutual cooperation and increase in people to people contact would help understand each others’ viewpoint better and Punjab University was ready to extend its all-out cooperation in every field in this regard. He said the role of a vice-chancellor was like a facilitator and he had done every possible effort in this regard.

Talking about circumstances of the region, the Vice-Chancellor said the humanity could not ensure its survival unless the people of world could know the US bankers and rich families who had been enforcing wars on the whole world and wanted One-World government and had a dream of occupying Eurasia.

Talking about Pak-India relations, Dr Mujahid Kamran said dialogue, and not the war, was the only way of resolving issues. Giving briefing about the varsity, the Vice-Chancellor said the present administration had utilized all-out resources for academic progress and as a result the academic standard and the varsity’s ranking in HEC were improved.

Representing the delegation, Damanbir Singh Jaspal said academic cooperation between the two countries must be promoted. He said both the countries had similar problems and carried almost similar culture; therefore cooperation must be extended in all spheres of life as people had been suffering due to lack of cooperation. He said the progress of the region was linked to peace in the territory.

Later the delegation visited the Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) where Centre Director Prof Dr Umbreen Javed and faculty members welcomed them. Dr Umbreen Javed gave a detailed briefing about the ongoing academic and research programmes of the Centre.

The delegation also visited the University Oriental College where Principal Prof Dr Mazhar Moeen told the delegation about the history, academic and research programmes of the College. The members of the delegation also visited various departments and their libraries especially of Hindi Department.

Expressing their views on the occasion, the members of the delegation said they felt immense pleasure to visit Pakistan and especially Punjab University. The delegation also visited the Main Library where Chief Librarian Ch Muhammad Hanif briefed the delegation about various sections of the Library.
