Islamabad, July 20, 2023 (PPI-OT): Speakers of a webinar have said that the Kashmiris have great affection and love for Pakistan and they had linked their political future with the country through a historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947. The seminar in connection with the Accession to Pakistan Day, was jointly organized by Kashmir Media Services, Youth Council of Pakistan and Friends of Kashmir International. The speakers included Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Senator Zarqa Suhrawardy, analyst Brigadier (Retd) Waqar Khan (analyst), Kashmiri human rights defender Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, President Youth Council of Pakistan Muhammad Shahzad Khan, Vice Chairman of Friends of Kashmir International Abdul Hameed Lone, Muhammad Haroon Abbas (KMS), and journalist Athar Masood Wani.
The speakers said that the Kashmiri leadership had expressed their desire and aspirations by passing the resolution of Accession to Pakistan on July 19, 1947 in Srinagar, almost a month before the formal creation of Pakistan. They said that this initiative of the Kashmiri leadership was in accordance with the principles of partition of the subcontinent in which the Princely States were given the choice to join either Pakistan or India. The speakers said that this resolution was in line with the ground realities as the peoples of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan were connected in great religious, social and cultural bonds. However, they deplored that India illegally occupied the state against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people by landing its army in Srinagar on 27 October in 1947. They said the Kashmiri people have been fighting against this illegal Indian occupation for the past over 75 years.
The speakers said the Kashmiris celebrate 19th July every year as Accession to Pakistan Day to express their deep commitment, love and devotion for Pakistan. They said that the people of occupied Kashmir are making unprecedented sacrifices to get rid of India’s yoke and the worst Indian oppression could not erase their love for freedom and Pakistan. The speakers said that the slogan coined by Syed Ali Gilani Shaheed “We are Pakistanis and Pakistan is ours” reflects the love and devotion of Kashmiris towards Pakistan. They added that the day is not far when the sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs will bear fruit and Jammu and Kashmir will be a part of Pakistan.
