New Delhi: The Indian legal community, including prominent Supreme Court advocates, has voiced concerns regarding the nation’s arms exports to Israel, highlighting potential breaches of international and domestic laws.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan criticized India’s role, stating, “It is clear that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine.” He accused India of facilitating this by continuing arms exports. Advocate Chander Uday Singh supported calls for an immediate cessation of these exports, citing violations of the Indian Constitution’s directive to uphold international law, including obligations under the Genocide Convention, which India ratified in 1959.
The debate intensified following reports that missile fragments labeled “Made in India” were discovered at a bombed school site in Gaza this June. Legal experts are raising alarms that India could face international accountability not only for its role in Kashmir but now potentially in Gaza as well.
The calls for stopping military sales to Israel reflect a growing scrutiny over India’s foreign arms dealings and their alignment with the country’s constitutional principles and international legal commitments.
