Jammu: Indian police have filed charges against more than a dozen Kashmiri Muslims and local landlords in the Jammu region of Indian-administered Kashmir. The charges pertain to providing housing and properties to individuals from the Kashmir Valley and other Muslims from outside the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, authorities have registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against nine property owners in the Samba district. These owners face allegations of failing to submit tenant information, primarily involving residents from the Kashmir Valley, to local police for verification at Ghagwal and Bari Brahmana police stations.
Further, five additional cases have been filed against local Muslim landlords in Jammu district. Individuals named in these cases include Farman Ali, Asima Latif, Mohammad Shakeel, Zakir Hussain, and Azam Malik. They are accused of providing accommodation to Rohingya refugees.
The actions are part of ongoing security protocols in the region, which require landlords to verify tenant information with local police. The incidents highlight ongoing tensions and the complex socio-political landscape in the region.
