India’s dreaded NIA moves Delhi HC seeking death sentence for Yasin Malik

New Delhi, May 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): India’s dreaded National Investigation Agency (NIA) has moved the Delhi High Court seeking the death penalty for Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik. The plea by the NIA has been listed for hearing on May 29 before a bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh. Muhammad Yasin Malik was sentenced to life by a court in New Delhi on May 25, last year, in a false case registered against him. On May 10 last year, he had told the Delhi court that he was not contesting the charges against him as he had no trust in the Indian judiciary.

The JKLF chief was arrested in March 2019 and remains presently lodged in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail. He was booked under various sections of draconian law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The court had also framed the charges against other Kashmiri leaders including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahidul Islam, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Peer Saifullah, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Abdul Rasheed Sheikh and Naval Kishore Kapoor.
