KARACHI: Trade between Indonesia and Pakistan has seen significant growth, reaching $4.2 billion in 2024, as both nations aim to strengthen economic cooperation. From January to September 2025, bilateral trade recorded $2.92 billion, compared to $2.69 billion in the same period of 2024. The Consul General of Indonesia, Drs. Mudzakir M.A, highlighted the potential to diversify the trade basket, exploring sectors like textiles, the Halal industry, and technology.
The announcements were made at a meeting at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), attended by various business leaders including KCCI President Muhammad Rehan Hanif. The Consul General noted the participation of an Indonesian business delegation in the upcoming International Consumer Product Fair in Karachi, aimed at showcasing Indonesia’s export potential.
Indonesia remains committed to enhancing bilateral trade through initiatives such as SME development and technology exchange. The Consul General emphasized the importance of focusing on high value-added sectors, including Halal products and digital transformation, to advance economic ties.
Highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries, the Consul General reaffirmed Indonesia’s strategic partnership with Pakistan. He acknowledged KCCI’s role in promoting trade linkages and expressed interest in future collaborations through joint forums and trade delegations.
KCCI President Rehan Hanif welcomed the Indonesian Consul General’s visit as a step toward deepening economic and cultural connections. He expressed optimism about the potential for increased trade and encouraged Indonesian investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones.
Hanif proposed several initiatives to enhance trade, including regular exchange of delegations, participation in trade fairs, and addressing trade barriers. He emphasized the importance of expanding the Preferential Trade Agreement to make trade more efficient and beneficial for both nations.
