Indus Motor Company and I AM KARACHI mark Iqbal Day

Karachi, November 09, 2018 (PPI-OT): Indus Motor Company Limited (IMC) in collaboration with Society for I Am Karachi (IAK) held a special event at Hill Park on November 9, 2018 to commemorate Iqbal Day and pledge to advance the spirit of cleanliness in the country.

A part of IMC-IAK’s 5S Clean Karachi Campaign 2018, the event drew over 200 attendees including students and teachers from local schools as well as Toyota’s Goth Education Program accompanied by representatives and senior officials from IMC and IAK who participated in the activity with great enthusiasm.

The event comprised of some speeches including the keynote speech by Mr. Faizan Mustafa, General Manager, IMC who paid tribute to Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal for his revolutionary thinking and urged youngsters to play their role in the development of a more prosperous Pakistan.

Commenting on the occasion, CEO of IMC, Ali Asghar Jamali, said, “It is highly important to pay respect to our national heroes and remind our young generations about the sacrifices these great individuals have made for the nation. Dr. Allama Iqbal’s poetic work emphasized the need for education and encouraged citizens to realize their potential in building a better and stronger Pakistan.”

He added, “As a responsible corporate entity, IMC aims to instill a sense of ownership, particularly among young children, to inspire them to understand the positive impact they can make within the society. We hope that initiatives such as the 5S Clean Karachi Campaign allow many more citizens to truly care for their country and support its wellbeing.”

With the aim to foster a sense of civic responsibility and encourage socially responsible habits, the event also featured an awareness session on Toyota’s 5S philosophy. The 5S value set revolves around the principles of cleanliness, sorting, tidiness, organization, and neatness in a systematic and consistent manner. These principles can be applied by citizens to any task in their daily lives to become more efficient and deliver high-quality results.

The event was concluded by a clean drive in the park that was executed by participating students and IMC, IAK officials. The drive complements the campaign’s previously held awareness and mobilization sessions held across 17 different locations in Karachi, including schools, sports academies, community centers and Mehmood Ghaznavi and Frere Hall parks.

IAK Executive Director, Ambareen Thompson, said, “I AM KARACHI is fully committed to Karachi and its people and public spaces. We are actively working to reclaim not just public spaces but also to end intolerance and divisiveness. The clean drive is our give back to our community and city, our commitment to a cleaner, greener Karachi.”

The spirit shared by IMC at the ceremony was one that goes beyond producing cars. IMC believes in playing a leading role in owning the cities of Pakistan and partnering with local communities to make our cities better, cleaner and vibrant places to live.
