Iran delegation discusses flood losses with Mirwaiz

Srinagar, September 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): A high-level delegation of Iran comprising Agha Syed Hussaini, Agha Syed Muhammad Takki and others, today, met the All Parties Hurriyet Conference and patron Muttahida Majlis Ulema, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence in Mirwaiz Manzil, Nigeen.

On the occasion, Mirwaiz informed the delegation about the loss of life and property caused by the floods. Mirwaiz said that the international aid for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected people of Kashmir at large was need of the hour.

He urged upon the delegation that a massive rehabilitation effort was needed on the same lines as the international agencies came forward to assist Azad Jammu and Kashmir with financial support after the 2005 earthquake.

He apprised the delegation that he had already made appeals to the globally acknowledged financial institutions including Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Bank to extend financial support in rebuilding flood-hit Kashmir.

Mirwaiz stated that with the loss of precious human lives, the havoc had caused damage to the public property worth 80,000 to one lakh crore. He said the restoration works in such circumstances can’t be fulfilled through local resources. He hoped that apart from, OIC and UN, the Islamic Republic Iran would also come forward for help of the people of devastated valley.

The delegation praised the efforts of Mirwaiz and other activists who made the relief camps operational and remained steadfast in rendering all possible help to the flood-hit victims. The delegation assured the Mirwaiz of every possible help to the flood victims.
