Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, local administration for improving business and economic activities

Islamabad, December 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): In line with the efforts of ICCI to ensure smooth communication with the local administration and to further strengthen the mutual liaison for achieving beneficial results for the local business community, a 12 members delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its President Shaban Khalid called on Mr. Jawad Paul, Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Capital Territory in his office and discussed matters for further improving local business and economic activities.

Addressing the delegation, Chief Commissioner ICT said that government is focused on creating an enabling environment for promotion of business and investment activities in the country and local administration would act as a facilitator for businessmen by trying to resolve their problems.

He said businessmen are playing a vital role in improving local economy and we would take all possible measures to facilitate them so that they could further expand business activities and contribute more effectively to the development of country.

Shaban Khalid, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted the various issues of business community and said that unilateral imposition of parking fee in markets by CDA was not a wise move as it will hurt the interest of consumers and traders and create more disturbance in the city.

The other main issues highlighted were speeding up the construction work of Islamabad Dry Port road, development of two approved auction platforms in Sabsi Mandi, removal of encroachment from F-8 Markaz, controlling the illegal activities of Kachi Abadees etc. He suggested that a monthly meeting comprising representatives of ICCI, Local Administration, CDA and Islamabad Police should be held regularly to bridge the communication gap and resolve businessmen problems with consensus.

The Chief Commissioner ICT agreed that CDA should explore other options for revenue generation instead of levying parking tax in markets. He said CDA is not authorized to make any changes in the penal codes to enhance punishments without the approval of parliament and added that local administration would look into these issues to remove the concerns of business community.

He assured the ICCI delegation that ICT administration would extend its support and cooperation in addressing all highlighted issues and creating an environment that could help in boosting business activities in the local area.
