Pakistan Stock Exchange Closes Lower Amid Declines in Key Indices

Karachi, The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a downturn in its key indices on April 30, 2024, with the KSE-100 Index, a major indicator of market health, closing at 71,102.55, down by 592.48 points or 0.83 percent from the previous session. This negative trend was echoed across other major indices, including the KSE-ALL-Shares and KSE-30, which also witnessed declines.

In terms of market activity, the PSX reported a total trading volume of 560,552,783 with a traded value of PKR 25,730,816,669. The market saw 113 advancers against a larger number of 244 decliners, with 27 stocks remaining unchanged out of a total of 384 listed companies. This trading session displayed a bearish trend across the board with notable decreases in sector-specific indices such as KMI-30 and the broader PSX-KMI-All-Shares.

Among specialized indices, the Oil and Gas Track Index (OGTi) presented a contrast by registering a slight increase, up by 35.23 points or 0.21 percent, showcasing some resilience within the oil and gas sector amidst the overall market pullback. Conversely, the ACI index, which tracks consumer industries, faced the sharpest decline, falling by 221.70 points or 1.90 percent.

The market’s debt security segment showed stability in the number of listed securities, with 13 publicly issued and 22 privately placed debt securities, maintaining a significant total issue size. However, the mutual funds and ETFs sector remained relatively less dynamic, with no change in the number of listed ETFs which stood at nine.

Today’s market performance highlighted a cautious sentiment among investors, reflected in the downward movement of most indices and the dominance of decliners over advancers in the trading session.
