Islamabad Remembers Ashraf Sehrai on Third Martyrdom Anniversary

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter convened a conference in Islamabad to commemorate the third anniversary of the death of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, a senior leader and Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was presided over by APHC-AJK Convener Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, with former JI amir of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Abdul Rasheed Tarabi serving as the special guest. Speakers at the conference lauded Sehrai’s enduring contributions to the Kashmiri freedom struggle and criticized the conditions of his detention, which they termed as criminal negligence.

The conference also reflected on the broader impact of Sehrai’s death, describing it as a pivotal moment that exposed the severity of India’s policies in the region and spurred a renewed wave of resistance within the freedom movement. Remarks by Pakistan Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir regarding Kashmir were highlighted as uplifting for Kashmiri activists, providing them with renewed vigor in their quest for self-determination.

Participants called for the implementation of General Munir’s statements as a strategic measure against Indian actions in Kashmir. They demanded an end to human rights abuses by India, the release of detained Hurriyat leaders, and the repeal of oppressive laws. The conference underscored the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

The conference concluded with a reaffirmation of the Kashmiri people’s resolve to continue their struggle for freedom, honoring the legacy of their martyrs. Additionally, condolences were offered for other members of the Hurriyat community who had recently passed away, reinforcing a sense of solidarity among the attendees.

The event was attended by a broad spectrum of Hurriyat leaders, each echoing the sentiment of continued resistance and the importance of international attention to their cause.
