‘Islamabad’ was approved as name of Pakistan’s capital in 1960

The name of Pakistan’s capital ‘Islamabad’ was approved on this day in 1960.

On this day in 1960, in a meeting of federal cabinet it was announced that name of federal capital will be ‘Islamabad’ after examining various names.

The name was proposed by Qazi Abdul Rehman, a school teacher from Arifwala.
