Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Decries Demolition of Religious Sites in Gujarat

New Delhi: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has vocally condemned the recent demolition of a mosque, a dargah, and a centuries-old graveyard in Gujarat’s Garsumnath district, terming the actions a blatant disregard for India’s legal and religious frameworks.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Naib-Amir, Malik Mutasim Khan, stated in New Delhi that the demolition occurred near the Somnath temple on Saturday, violating explicit orders from the Indian Supreme Court. The court had mandated that any such action require prior permission, a condition allegedly ignored by the local administration.

Khan criticized the demolition as a deliberate attempt to inflame Muslim sentiments and an affront to the judiciary. He highlighted a growing trend in India where the destruction of religious and historical buildings, particularly those belonging to religious minorities and Muslims, is carried out without legal adherence, posing a severe and sensitive challenge to communal harmony and legal authority in the region.
