Karachi: The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) has announced the appointment of Javed Kureishi as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 11, 2025. Mr. Kureishi, a veteran of the banking industry with 34 years of experience, takes over from Ehsan Malik, who led the organization for the past decade.
The decision to appoint Mr. Kureishi was made unanimously by the PBC board of directors. His extensive experience spans leadership roles in markets such as Pakistan, Egypt, South Africa, and Singapore, with a focus on emerging market strategies and policy advocacy.
The board expressed its gratitude to Mr. Malik for his significant contributions in strengthening PBC’s influence in economic policy and stakeholder engagement in Pakistan. Under his leadership, the organization became a prominent advocate for formal business practices and economic progress.
Mr. Kureishi’s current directorships include positions at KElectric, PIA Holding Co, and Fauji Food, among others. He has also served on the boards of the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the Pakistan Cricket Board, providing him with a broad perspective on corporate governance.
Dr. Zeelaf Munir, Chairperson of PBC, acknowledged the accomplishments of Mr. Malik and welcomed Mr. Kureishi. She emphasized that Mr. Kureishi’s understanding of the local business environment and his international experience would drive the PBC’s mission forward, focusing on sustainable growth.
The Pakistan Business Council, a major advocacy group with over a hundred member companies, plays a crucial role in promoting job creation, export growth, and economic formalization in Pakistan.
