JKLF takes out torch procession in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) took out a torchlight procession in Srinagar against the human rights violations by Indian troops in the territory.

The procession started from near JKLF headquarters at Maisuma and culminated near Akhara Building at Budshah Chowk. Carrying banners in their hands, the JKLF leaders and supporters raised pro-freedom slogans.

The party leaders said that the procession was taken out in support of the demand for return of mortal remains of Kashmiri leaders, Mohammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru, to highlight the grave human rights situation in the territory and the plight of prisoners.

It is worth mentioning here that the JKLF Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, is observing a 48-hour long hunger strike at Maisuma since Friday afternoon to protest against the rights abuses.

About 200 people from affected families including relatives of those killed, arrested, disappeared in custody and awarded life impressments are attending the hunger strike. Students of various schools have also joined them. The participants have expressed the resolved to carry forward their struggle and make the world aware of their sufferings.

People from different walks of life have visited the hunger strike camp and expressed solidarity with its participants. They included politicians, human right and social activists, doctors, engineers, traders, journalist and lawyers. Among those visited the camp were Hurriyet leaders, Yasmeen Raja, Zafar Akbar Butt, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Abdul Aziz Dar, Abdul Rasheed Untoo and Abdul Majid Banday, renowned jurist, advocate Zafar Ahmad Shah, noted heart surgeon, Dr Sajjad Reshi, renowned scholars, Dr Altaf Hussain, Zafar Meraj, Dr Javed Iqbal, Abdul Majeed Zargar, and poet, Zareef Ahmad Zareef.
