JKLF to organise protests to highlight detainees’ plight

Srinagar, January 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has decided to organize protests on the 2nd and 20th of every month to highlight the plight of detainees in jails and against the life sentences awarded to the Kashmiri youth.

The JKLF spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

He said that the meeting decided that on 2nd of every month the protesters, carrying candles and torches, would hold a march at Madina Chowk, Gaw Kadal, and on 20th of every month they would stage silent sit-in at Pratap Park in Srinagar. “Not only JKLF leaders and activists but also the friends and relatives of detainees will participate in these marches,” he said. Meanwhile, the JKLF will organize a peaceful protest procession tomorrow (January 21) in memory of the Gaw Kadal martyrs. The procession will be led by the party leaders.
