Kashmir not an economic, but a political problem

Srinagar, June 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that Kashmir is a political and humanitarian issue, which cannot be resolved through economic packages. Addressing a rally over telephone in Srinagar, he said that the people of Kashmir would observe complete strike during Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh’s visit to Kashmir on Tuesday.

The Mirwaiz urged India to pull out troops, revoke all draconian laws from the occupied territory and release illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists to pave the way for settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

Earlier, the puppet authorities put the APHC Chairman under house arrest at his Nageen residence in Srinagar to prevent him from leading the rally after Friday prayers from Jamia Masjid to Mirwaiz Manzil.

The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a media interview termed Indian army’s Operation Shiva as part of conspiracy to defame the ongoing Kashmiris liberation movement at international level. The veteran leader, who is continuously under house arrest, apprehended that Indian intelligence agencies might plan attacks on Amarnath pilgrims to malign the freedom movement.

APHC leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza addressing public meetings in Qazi Gund and Srinagar and Yasmeen Raja in a statement urged the world to impress upon India to hold dialogue for peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

Liberation leaders, Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Javed Ahmad Mir in their separate statements endorsed the shutdown call given by the pro-freedom leadership on the visit of Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh to the territory.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani and General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Paray in a statement expressed profound grief over the demise of party activist, Fayaz Ahmad in Bandipora.
