Khalid Emphasizes Importance of Non-Formal Technical Education

Islamabad: Minister for Education and Professional Training, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has stressed the need for promoting non-formal technical education besides formal education. He was addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad today in connection with International Literacy Day. The Minister highlighted literacy as the foundation of dignity, self-respect, and alleviating poverty, which he identified as the biggest challenge faced by the country. He also pointed out that out-of-school children are a significant challenge for the government.

According to Radio Pakistan, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui mentioned that the future of Pakistan depends on its educated and skilled youth. He noted that, at present, one hundred fifty million youth in the country could be seen as both a challenge and an opportunity. The Minister explained that education falls under the purview of the provincial government following the 18th Amendment, but assured that the Federal government is committed to providing equal education facilities to every child.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui also acknowledged the efforts of the teachers’ community in addressing the issue of out-of-school children. He emphasized the need for collective efforts by all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and international partners, to promote quality education in the country and increase the enrolment of out-of-school children.
