LABARD brings out second news letter

Lahore, January 12, 2017 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) has brought out its second news letter to apprise the public of facilities being provided by the association. The LABARD is a non-profit and non-government organisation patronised by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The news letter also highlights the association’s achievements besides giving success stories. The contents reveals that the association has so far registered 17271 members and provided employment to 5384 disabled people, imparted vocational training to3170 , provided educational assistance to 2529 financial assistance to 2221, and medical assistance to 2802 people.

Besides, the association has handed over aiding instruments and wheel-chairs to 5718 people, cornea replacement for visibility to 491 disabled while 434 , were provided interest-free loans. Association’s LABARD President and MNA Pervez Malik and Honorary Secretary General Muhammad Saeed Khan told that vocational training to disabled persons was provided in different disciplines including computer basics, AUTOCAD, graphic designing, practical accounting and book keeping, computer fundamentals for visually impaired, industrial stitching, domestic stitching and dress making, professional cooking, mobile phone repairing, photocopier and book binding, home appliances, beautician course and hair cutting saloon.

He further said that the association’s psychologists provide free of cost career counselling to each and every disabled person being training at the LABARD. A disabled person is properly interviewed by the psychologists and sent to a discipline for training keeping in mind their interest, strengths and areas of expertise, he added. Apart from other facilities, monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 is provided to every student getting vocational training.

LABARD President and MNA Pervez Malik said that and Secretary General Saeed Khan said that LABARD’s main purpose is to rehabilitate the disabled persons and help them becoming independent and self-sufficient just like other able-bodied persons. It has only been possible through the collective efforts of all the well-wishers of LABARD that it has impacted the lives of more than 17000 people. They said that all segments of society should help LABARD even more in any way they can. For those of us who have been blessed with good health and sufficient financial means have even greater responsibility to ensure that vulnerable people are given proper opportunities to excel.
