Ladakh Activists Struggle to Secure Venue for Hunger Strike in New Delhi

New Delhi: Leading figures in the ongoing push for constitutional recognition and rights for Ladakh, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and Sajjad Hussain Kargili of the Kargil Democratic Alliance, announced plans for an indefinite hunger strike. However, they have encountered challenges in securing a location for their protest in the nation’s capital.

According to Kashmir Media Service, an additional leader from Ladakh confirmed that a group including Wangchuk and Kargili is prepared to join the hunger strike. Wangchuk revealed last Friday that their protest is a response to the lack of governmental action regarding their demands, which include a meeting with top officials such as the President, Prime Minister, or Home Minister. Despite their appeals, the location for their strike, ideally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, remains unconfirmed as permission has not yet been granted.

The movement, under the banner of ‘Delhi Chalo Padyatra’ initiated from Leh, has been advocating for Ladakh’s statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, a campaign spearheaded by the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance for over four years.
