Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses grave concern over violation of Chief Minister’s instructions by LESCO and SNGPL authorities

Lahore, September 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday expressed grave concern over the violation of Chief Minister’s instructions by the District Coordination Officer (DCO), LESCO and SNGPL authorities and sought the Chief Minister’s intervention over harassment to the business community.

In a statement issued here, the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that it was very unfortunate that the SNGPL and LESCO are being forced to misreport on pilferage issue while the OGRA law clearly states that gas meters should be checked in the presence of consumer/owner but it is not being done presently and procedural violations are being converted into theft just to show performance to the high-ups Farooq Iftikhar said that he had personally brought the matter into the notice of MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif during the latter’s visit to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday who promised to take up the matter and have it resolved.

The LCCI president said, “It takes decades to make repute but the whole standing or performance goes down in the drain within no time.”

Farooq Iftikhar said that it also came into the notice of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry that in many incidences respected owners of industrial units were physically manhandled by the task force constituted for the purpose.

He said that the DCO’s office must not concoct things and present only a true picture of the situation and there should be a clear distinction between procedural violation and gas theft.

He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry is deadly against electricity and gas pilferage and wanted of the government to give strict punishment to all those who are committing this national crime.

The LCCI President said that since the harassment to the business community is giving a bad name to the business friendly PML-N government therefore, the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif should look into the matter and issue necessary directions to stop the practice.
